Hi guys!

Tim firstly that's no problem - the vignetting was caused by this fairly innocous looking hood on the camera campic the hood didn't show up in the viewfinder (or if it did I might have to kill someone) and hence we kept it on all the time, just to assist with reducing lense-flair. As far as being pissed off, well not really - there's a few things about the film I've just got to accept (for my own sanity) and put it down as a learning experience - but on the other hand there are a few which I'm going to struggle like **** to try and fix/improve eg making sure it's got a really good sound mix -- but that's something I can do something about. So anyway it was the hood! I'm pretty sure it didn't show up in the view finder cause I've shot a few things through it and never saw it, and I think some were shots where the zoom was right back wide.

Matt: K40 wow! I guess it's the magic hour nice diffused well spread light - it's such a great shot I look at it a number of times (not for the girl I promise I promise ) Your description was really good and it made me wonder are you going to do a DVD with a director's commentary cause that would be very interesting to hear and quite worthwhile for all us beginner film makers --- we've just bought a DVD player so I'm totally new to them and have just been blown away by all the added features it's just awesome - we can also play VCD's on it so now I can burn a rough cut (or part of it - 70 odd mins) of In My Image on my computer and preview it on the tv -- it's not the best image quality (mpeg2 I think) but I don't have a camcorder so at least I can do this. The only DVD I've watched all the added features for is the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service - the doco there features alot of what msut be Super 8 shot when they were on location in the Swiss alps - including footage of a cameraman suspended in a harness under a helicopter to film down hill skiing shots - incredible. Some of the footage in that film looks beautiful - I'd love to know what kind of stock they used.

I also saw a whole lot of shorts last night in a cinema projected by a data projector from BetaSp - and to be honest it didn't look that bad - not as good as film - and not good enough to make we want to ditch film - but not bad enough to make me want to spew either - which I thought it was going to - so that was good - if I can my film shown in a cinema in a similar fashion it won't be that bad......apart from the jitter, the vignetting, the soundtrack........hmmm I feel another editing session coming on... Anyway gotta go!

Don't mean to drag on about the vignetting, as I know you're probably a little pissed about it. But, what factor contributed to the vignetting? Just so the rest of us know what caught you out. I've sometimes had trouble using a circular polarizer 4x4 at full wide, or with a 0.7x lens. An anamorphic lens I used once too was utter **** and vignetted at wide too.

    Tim
